How To Remove Power Steering Pump Pulley

 All you need is some tools to remove the power steering pump pulley.

 Replace with a lightweight performance pulley that gives you back more than you got when it works with all your other performance engine components.

Follow the following steps;

• Raise the hood of a vehicle parked on a level surface in a well-lit area.
• Remove the red, positive battery cable and keep the loose end of the battery cable away from the battery posts while you work.
• Locate the power steering pump and the mounting bracket that secures it in position.
• Use a socket and ratchet to loosen the power steering pump adjusting the bolt and pulley. When this adjusting screw is loosened, the pump will pivot on an axis; thus, it is possible to loosen its drive belt.
• Pull the drive belt off of the pump. With the drive belt removed from the pulley, the pump easily rotates into place. 
• Adjust the pump position for easy access and tighten the adjusting nut to hold the pump in place while swapping the pulleys.
• Because the pulley spins freely, it is impossible to loosen this nut unless you have a grip on the pulley while turning the lock nut counterclockwise
• Stop the pulley from turning while you remove the nut; the nut will loosen, and the pulley can be freed from the power steering pump shaft.
• Replace the old power steering pulley with the new performance pulley. Hold the new pulley with a rag and vise grips to hold the pulley in place while you tighten the retaining nut on the pump shaft until snug.

How To Install Power Steering Pump Pulley

• Open the power pulley steering box and get the bolt and nut out. Look inside the ratchet assembly and find the correct size sleeve for the retaining bolt.
• Slide the washer onto the retaining bolt and insert the retaining bolt into the hole in the middle of the power steering pulley. Slide the other washer onto the retaining bolt.
• Insert the power steering bolt into the hole in the engine by the power steering pulley. Push the pulley fixing bolt into the hole until the bolt stops.
• Grab the nut on the back of the power steering pulley with the pliers to keep the pulley from turning while you tighten the bolt.
• Tighten the hold-down bolt using the ratchet set. Thread the bolt into the engine with the ratchet set until firmly tightened.

How To Remove Power Steering Pump Without Tool

Attempting to remove the pulley with anything other than the special puller can damage the pulley and pump, making replacements much more expensive than the tool.

If you’re hell-bent on doing it without the extraction tool, here’s how to do it:

Please put the pump in a vise after removing it from the car and tap the wedge between the pulley and the pump with a piece of metal tubing and a hammer.

With the torch, warm the pulley’s core before removing it.

Hit it from behind with a hammer to separate it.

The ease with which things can go awry if you employ any of these techniques cannot be emphasized enough.

How I Remove It Using A Puller

You’ll need some wiggle room in front of the power steering pump to remove the pulley.
